Coco’s Cookies is a family-owned business run by Collette and Curtis Melder, serving customers in the Sedro-Woolley and Bellingham, Washington areas, as well as Chandler, Arizona. Before working together, they had no real web presence and no way to take orders online—despite having a loyal and enthusiastic customer base.

The goal was not simply to “get them a website,” but to give the business a user-friendly online foundation that could support growth.

The Challenge

Coco’s Cookies faced two critical communication hurdles:

  1. Customers needed to clearly understand that they were purchasing frozen, pre-made cookie dough, not baked cookies.
  2. Customers also needed to understand that they bake the cookies at home, fresh in their own oven.

Without clarity on those two points, online ordering would create confusion and friction.

Giving the Logo Some Whimsy

At the same time, the business was already thinking ahead — investing in professional equipment, producing in a county health-code-approved kitchen, and considering long-term scalability through co-packing and nationwide shipping.

The website needed to meet them where they were now while being ready for where they’re headed.

The Approach

I worked closely with Collette and Curtis to shape the site around three priorities:

  • Clarity first — Making the frozen, bake-at-home model immediately obvious.
  • Brand trust — Using customer testimonials, simple language, and warm visuals to reflect the personal nature of the business.
  • Scalability — Building a site structure that could support future e-commerce without forcing premature complexity.

Rather than overbuilding, the site was intentionally designed to be WooCommerce-ready—able to support online ordering and expansion when the business is ready, without locking them into decisions too early.

Alongside the website, I’ve also served as an ongoing consultant — helping think through brand presentation, future production scaling, and the realities of shipping a frozen, perishable product nationwide.

The Result

The Coco’s Cookies website is now the central hub for the business:

  • A clear explanation of the product and process
  • A place to build credibility and showcase customer loyalty
  • A foundation for online sales and future growth

Most importantly, the website supports the business without overwhelming it — allowing Collette and Curtis to focus on what they do best while knowing their online presence is ready for the next phase.

The friction-free website allows the owners to focus on what they do best — making great cookies!
